5 Easy Ways to Make your Basement Shooting Range Safe

1.Use a bullet stopping power, like the Bullet Bunker to contain all debris and avoid ricochet

Each Bullet Bunker model has been specifically designed and manufactured to withstand a maximum caliber weapon. Using higher caliber weapons than what your specific model is designed for significantly diminishes its capability. If there is any question about what calibers can be shot into your bullet bunker, contact a Bullet Bunker representative.

2. Wear proper PPE

Protective clothing, including safety glasses and hearing protection is recommended. When replacing the ballistic material and removing rounds additional PPE should be used as outlined in the Bullet Bunker Owner’s Manual.

3. Establish a safe firing distance

Bullet Bunker testing was accomplished down to a range of one (1) foot or 12 inches. Testing in this close of proximity was conducted to ensure The Bullet Bunker could safely and effectively capture the full velocity of a properly sized round. To establish a safe firing distance for your Bullet Bunker, begin shooting from seven to ten yards back and then move forward until a safe and comfortable distance is established.

4. Ventilation

Your Bullet Bunker trap is designed for outdoor and indoor use. However, additional precautions should be followed while using The Bullet Bunker indoors. Firearms create airborne hazards such as lead particulates and gasses from the primer and gunpowder. Without proper ventilation these particles can accumulate and create harmful respiratory problems and/or other significant health conditions.

5. Experience Level

The Bullet Bunker is not designed to improve your shooting ability or attract bullets; each trap is manufactured to contain specifically sized and properly aimed projectiles. Rounds that impact the collar or miss the front panel are considered stray bullets and can be dangerous. As with all shooting safety, ensure the area remains secure every time your range is live. For shooters with limited experience (or let’s be honest just don’t have good aim), the Bullet Bunker suggest to move the range to a safe outdoor location.
